Selena Gomez snaps up the late Tom Petty’s former home $4.9M

Selena Gomez has snapped up the late rocker Tom Petty’s former home in Encino, California, for $4.9 million.

The 27-year-old Rare singer has decided to splash out an eye-watering sum of money on the mansion Tom and his ex-wife Jane Benyo designed back in 1989. The property has since been renovated. The I Won’t Back Down singer from Florida died in 2017 at the age of 66 at his Malibu mansion.

The 11,000 square foot property boasts six bedrooms and 10 baths, according to E! News, which reports that it also features plenty of spare rooms suitable for leisure activities.

What’s more, the luxurious abode is home to an in-home recording booth, meaning Selena will be able to make new music from the comfort of her own house.

The property also features a wine cellar, a gym, a massage room and a work space, as well as an extra kitchen.

There is also a swimming pool with hot tub and an outdoor covered barbecue area that could seat at least 10 people.

The inside of the house has a charming feel with plenty of beamed ceilings that are high. The entire house is painted white and has large windows that lend an airy, beachy cottage vibe. 

The Monte Carlo actress last lived in Studio City where she was often seen with ex Justin Bieber. She bought the home for $2.25M in 2017 but it did not offer as much privacy. 

Petty died in October 2017 after being removed from life support at the age of 66.

The Rock and Roll legend passed away in Los Angeles while surrounded by his family, friends, and bandmates, according to his longtime manager Tony Dimitriades.

The move came after tests confirmed the Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers lead singer had no brain function on, hours after he suffered a devastating cardiac arrest. The veteran star had been found unconscious and not breathing at his Malibu home. 

Meanwhile, Selena recently insisted having a boyfriend is ‘nowhere near the top’ of her list of priorities.

The Lose You to Love Me singer stressed that her new song, Boyfriend, was written long before the coronavirus pandemic sparked chaos around the world – and her focus now is on ‘safety, unity, and recovery’ for everyone.

The president’s name came up when the Rare singer spoke to April issue of Vogue Arabia to promote the series Living Undocumented for Netflix, which she is a producer on.

‘My thoughts on life in Donald Trump’s America? I have said that I don’t claim to be an expert and I understand that there have to be rules and regulations, but we have to do better than what we are doing – we simply have to,’ said the Texas native.

Her father, Ricardo, was born in America. Her mother, Mandy Teefey, is also a US citizen.

She added, ‘The stories from each family hit me emotionally. We have all read the headlines on immigration – but these are people with stories, not headlines. It was time to listen to their complex tales and to how these people’s lives are being affected by immigration policies. Without awareness, we can’t see change, and my biggest hope in all this is that we do get to see change.’

‘If they hadn’t chosen to make this country their home, things would have been very different for me. Mexico will always be Mexico, and there are huge Mexican communities in the US but it must have been hard for my grandparents, who left their home.

The Wizards Of Waverly Place star said that how we deal with immigration as a country speaks about how much ‘compassion and empathy’ we have as a country. 

‘One thing I have seen is that immigration goes beyond politics and political debates – it’s a human issue. Immigration is a complex topic and not one that is going to be solved in one day. One of the biggest things I have learned is that these people need and deserve to be listened to. They are not a statistic – they are people with real stories – and I would make sure that happened.’

Gomez added that it is ‘heartbreaking for so many being deported.

And she wants these immigrants and refugees to know that ‘there are people fighting for them.’

She added: ‘There are people who will listen to them, and there are those who are ready to fight for change. Through the documentary I learned that people are truly inspiring. These families have so much going on in their lives, yet they still find the strength to keep going.’ 

In October she wrote an op ed for TIME. ‘Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance.
